We invite you to join us on this five-day Residential Retreat in one of the most beautiful parts of Bali.
Commences: Sunday Evening, 6th September 2026
Concludes: Friday afternoon, 11th September 2026
Venue: Toko Toko, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
Facilitated by Rob Bruce, founder of the Enneagram Academy Australia
We have all found enormous value in the explorations of the Enneagram. We have seen the importance of understanding and seeing our own behaviours, and how often they are driven by our unconscious pain. We have learnt to be compassionate and kind to ourselves and each other. We have realised that, with attention and courage, we can begin to dismantle the protective shells we have put in place to protect and defend ourselves. And with time, we have seen how we can move back towards essence, to experience our true nature, and perhaps to find our connection with the divine.
It now feels like time, with this wonderful platform of learning and experience, that we look directly and deeply at the most challenging area of all… relationships. We all passionately desire to be in relationships, both intimate and more broadly, where we feel nourished and sustained by others, and they, likewise, feel nourished by us.
But our ability to achieve these kinds of relationships is limited by the defensive shells we have built around ourselves to keep us away from the difficulties of life. With these unnecessary wrappings around our psyches, we become strangers to our own souls and strangers to the people we would like to love. When the wrappings are taken away, we are simply left with the uncomplicated beauty and innocence of our true nature.
It is only from this place we can experience the deep authenticity and intimacy of Undefended Love.
The retreat will draw deeply from the profound work of Jett Psaris and Marlena Lyons, and their book Undefended Love. A sense of what is being offered in this retreat is described in an extract from their book:
“Slowly the hardened layers of our defence systems are peeled away and the walls between us become even thinner. As we become more exposed, we become more illuminated in the glow of our essential self and revel in the glow of our partner’s beauty.”
This retreat is not about couple’s therapy. The focus will not be on techniques for relating more effectively or more authentically. Ultimately, it is the recognition that relationships are a mystery, but that transformation of self and the relationship is possible through the ancient teachings of alchemy and the more recent teachings of Jung, Joseph Campbell, the Enneagram and Undefended Love.
The retreat will also include a session exploring the spirituality of Bali facilitated by a very old friend, an Enneagram scholar, and who is also a Balinese priest.
Who can attend?
You do not have to be in an intimate relationship to attend the retreat. The content applies to all relationships, partners, family, friends and colleagues. A working knowledge of the Enneagram and your type is required. If you are uncertain about the level of your Enneagram knowledge, prior coaching is available, please contact Robert directly. Anyone who has completed any of our workshops qualify.
Content of the Retreat
The retreat will include some material from Parts 1 to 4 of our series of Enneagram workshops. However, it includes a lot of new material and it will be presented so it builds a pathway towards the purpose of this retreat, the experience of Undefended Love. Anyone who has attended some or all of our workshops will find it rewarding.
Location of the Retreat
The retreat will be held at Toko Toko’s, a beautiful private hotel in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia. It is about a one hour twenty-minute drive from the I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport. It is set in the rice fields of Ubud, and it is possible to walk out of the hotel directly into the rice fields. I having being staying at Toko Toko’s for over twenty years and I love its authenticity and warmth. Many of the rooms are new and they all have air-conditioning. They have recently built a very attractive yoga shala in which we will have our retreat sessions. If you want to have extra days at the venue, either before or after the retreat, this can be organised.

Cost of the Retreat
Cost includes six nights’ accommodation, breakfast and lunch for five days, and dinner on the opening night and on the last night. Please note, if you book after 28th May 2026, the cost of the retreat is AU$1300. Also allow AU$50 for airport transfers each way (which we can arrange) and AU$50 for an Indonesian visa.
